COLLOGEN AND OTHER INJECTABLE FILLERS
|
|
Wrinkles and depressions of the facial skin can be filled with collagen or other material. Most of the materials are slowly absorbed and must be re-injected 2-4 times each year. The materials can be categorized as collagen-based, sugar-based, or synthetics. The collagen materials have been used for 20 years and therefore we know the likely outcomes and minor problems. The sugar-based materials and synthetics have only recently been approved by the FDA in the U.S.A. and therefore we have limited long-term follow-up regarding duration of effect, and problems. Note:These alternative sugar and synthetic materials have been used for many years in other countries.
